Support your body to heal meniscus tear without surgery and other knee conditions

A case study on a different holistic approach to support knee healing.

Case Study: How Sherri Chose to Heal a Meniscus Tear Without Surgery

“i DON’T WANT SURGERY, BUT WHAT IF i DON’T HAVE A CHOICE?

That’s where Sherri found herself wanting to heal a meniscus tear without surgery. She had twisted her knee stepping down awkwardly.
At first, she thought it would settle. It didn’t. Swollen knee, walking became painful.
Her knee started clicking… then locking.
Scans confirmed it — meniscus tear (flap tear of the posterior horn).

When “Doing the Right Thing” Makes It Worse

Sherri did what most people would do. She tried rehab exercises to avoid surgery. And it made things worse. More pain. More irritation. More fear.
She started thinking:
“What if I’ve damaged it more?”
“What if surgery is the only option?”

And to be fair… that’s what many people are told at this stage.

A Different Way to Heal a Meniscus Tear Without Surgery

When we met, we didn’t rush into more exercises.
Because the problem wasn’t that Sherri “wasn’t trying hard enough.”

Strengthening the wrong way, at the wrong time, can keep the knee irritated.
So we took a step back.
We focused first on settling the knee.
Supporting the body’s natural healing response to Reduce pain and inflammation.

As that settled…
We introduced something different.

Not More Knee Exercises

Instead of strengthening the knee for movement. We worked away from the knee. A holistic, mind-body approach to gently activate key muscles around the pelvis that had gone quiet. These muscles help share load through the body. So the knee doesn’t have to take everything. Over the next 4 weeks:
Sherri learned to engage these muscles in isolation.

TO REGAIN MOVEMENT…

Then Sherri learnt how to gradually transfer her key muscles at the pelvis into everyday movement
Especially into walking — the thing that used to hurt the most
As the muscles around the pelvis became stronger, they took the load (of her body weight) off from her knee joint.
The strain on the knee joint became less with less loading.
And this likely helped improve blood flow to the joint which is crucial for healing.

WHAT HAPPENED NEXT

Over the next 3 months:
Her pain and swelling resolved
The clicking and locking eased
She regained confidence in her movement especially walking on uneven grounds.
And the fear of surgery started to fade
She didn’t need to “push through pain.”
She learned how to move differently..

12 Months Later…

This is what Sherri shared:
“I am going on a holiday and doing a 10k uphill walk. I am training regularly and I am confident I can do it. I think of you often and really am very grateful for the holistic approach you’ve given me. It’s easy now, but was so hard before.”

What This Means For You

If you’re trying to heal a meniscus tear without surgery, it doesn’t mean doing harder rehab to strengthen the knee so you can walk better.

It doesn’t mean ignoring your knee either and hoping it will get better on it’s own. And it certainly does not mean surgery is the only option especially if you prefer to avoid surgery if you could.

To support healing your meniscus naturally means:

  • Understanding why the knee is overloaded
  • Giving your body the right environment to settle and adapt
  • And changing how you move so you have less loading on your knee to free up your movements.

Frequently Asked Questions

A combination of supporting natural healing process and improving movement patterns to offload the knee can help create a better environment for recovery.

That’s more common than you think. Conventional rehab exercises often do not correct the overloading of the knee joint during movement. Hence, pain can persist or worsen sometimes. It’s not your fault—and it doesn’t mean you can’t improve.

Scans can provide useful information, but they do not predict your movements. Many people can begin improving movement safely while waiting for or without relying fully on scan results.

Clicking and locking can feel worrying, and they don’t always mean surgery is required. Improving how the knee is loaded during movement can often help resolve these symptoms with time.

It varies for each person. Some notice early changes in comfort and movement within weeks, and more meaningful improvements often build over a few months with the right approach.

This can happen when the knee is taking more load than it can currently handle. Adjusting how your body shares that load during movement may help reduce irritation over time.
